Biography
|
The Short and the Sweet of it
|
Jesse Tessmer lives in central Wisconsin with his wife and toddler twins. He is currently pursuing a
Ph.D. in English at the University of Wisconsin and, when not writing fiction or term papers, he
dabbles in web development, roleplaying games, and heavy metal.
In addition to his personal website, Jesse also operates the website and forum of the
Wisconsin Metal Alliance.

Influences and Inspiration
|
As a ripe, young, impressionable preteen, Jesse boasted an impressive collection of books from
R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series, as well as a number
of other Children's Horror novels. He also read every
Encyclopedia Brown
book he could get his hands on.
Later, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, would introduce
Jesse to literature as a form of social commentary, as opposed to simple entertainment. Fahrenheit
451 was an impressive novel on its own, but when coupled with the naiveté of adolescence, it becomes
practically world-changing. Equally important were the "required reading" authors:
J.R.R. Tolkein
and Stephen King.
As an adult, Jesse's influences have grown exponentially. Some favorites include:
Philip K. Dick,
Richard Matheson,
H.P. Lovecraft,
Edgar Allen Poe, and
Terry Pratchett
Non-literary influences include ancient mythology, various philosophers (both ancient and modern),
innumerable heavy metal and classic rock bands, countless b-grade horror movies of the 70s and 80s,
and -- most importantly -- the scenery and culture of Central and Northern Wisconsin.
